Dear PROVE National Members, The spotlight has unfortunately been on Texas because our Governor has taken an outrageously dangerous precedent setting action using force of an intrusive executive order to mandate our little 6th grade girls in Texas to be vaccinated against the sexually transmitted HPV virus in order to attend the 6th grade! We are in the midst of a fight that has implications for the rest of the United States as Merck continues to try and force their way through legislatures across the country. We are tracking what happens here where multiple legislators are filing bills, and typical supporters of the governor are not accepting this outrageous power grab usurping the legislature, ignoring efficacy, safety, and cost issues, and trampling parental rights. Two of our members, David and Desiree Watts have very generously and unselfishly volunteered a tremendous amount of their time and created a phenomenal BLOG tracking the efforts to overturn Perry's executive order. Share it with your friends and your own state legislators and media contacts who are concerned about what is going on here. It is also linked on the top of the PROVE webpage dedicated to this HPV issue. If you are outside of Texas, do not wait. It is just a matter of time - this is the time where we really all need to get busy continuing to contact all of our elected state officials across the country. Another thing that is extremely helpful, if you can take the time to write letters to the editor of you local papers and call in to radio shows and TV stations especially when you see things you know to be misleading or untrue, it can be a huge help to shifting the momentum. Finally, several people wrote in asking how they can see the NBC Today Show segment that aired on Monday. You can see it online at MSNBC. "Feb. 5: Texas governor Rick Perry is requiring girls to be vaccinated against HPV. NBC's Janet Shamlian reports. Then, TODAY host Meredith Vieira talks with NBC chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman, Texas representative Jessica Farrar and Dawn Richardson." Keep the faith and let's go give the good fight! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Dawn Richardson PROVE(Parents Requesting Open Vaccine Education) prove@vaccineinfo.net (email) http://vaccineinfo.net/ (web site) ------------------------------------------------------------------- PROVE provides information on vaccines, and immunization policies and practices that affect the children and adults of Texas.
